Former
first lady Kristiani Herrawati, better known as Ani Yudhoyono, has been
hospitalized in Singapore since Feb. 2 for blood cancer treatment.
Her
husband, Democratic Party chairman and former president Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono, said on Wednesday that she was currently under intensive medical
care at National University Hospital in Singapore.
“I
ask for prayers from everyone that God will cure my beloved wife so that she
can continue her activities back home,” he said during a press conference in
Singapore.
He
also thanked President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the government and all
well-wishers for the attention and support for his wife.
“As
a husband, of course, I will remain at her side. I know that she is a strong
person. She has accompanied me through thick and thin,” said Yudhoyono.
Democratic
Party spokeswoman Imelda Sari said on Tuesday that the family and presidential
medical team had met with the doctors who had been treating Ani in Singapore.
“Ibu Ani is
in stable condition,” Imelda said in a statement.
She
added that Yudhoyono, his eldest son Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and his youngest
Edhi Baskoro Yudhyono were at the hospital awaiting the results
from the doctors’ observations over the past week.
Jokowi
deployed the presidential medical team on Tuesday, Democrat executive Andi
Arief posted on his Twitter account.
“Pak Jokowi
has instructed the presidential medical team to work together with doctors in
Singapore for Ibu Ani Yudhyono’s recovery, as mandated by the
law,” Andi tweeted.
The
head of the party’s advocacy and legal team, Ferdinand Hutahaean, said its
members were all wishing a speedy recovery for Ani.
“We
all are sad,” Ferdinand said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara.
Apart
from party members and her family, Ani has also received well-wishes and
flowers from state leaders, including Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong,
President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and
National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian.
On Tuesday, Ani
uploaded a photo of a greeting card to her Instagram account @aniyudhoyono. Her
granddaughter, Almira “Aira” Tunggadewi Yudhoyono, had made the card and given it to her at the hospital.

Memo, hope you feel better and get well soon!” Aira wrote on the card, using
the family's endearment for Ani.
Her
sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren affectionately call her Memo
and Yudhoyono “Pepo” on social media.
The
former first lady is well known for her passion for photography and as an
active social media user. Her regular updates on her activities with her
husband and family have garnered 6.1 million Instagram followers.
She
is known for being very outspoken and direct in showing her support and affection
for her husband, sons and grandchildren, particularly when Agus Harimurti was

clearly by the journalist. It is also logically coherent so that the readers
can understand the news easily.
Fifth is the recent. This news
published a day ago. The former president Susilo Bambang Yudhono stated this
issue on Wednesday (13/2). So based on this reason, I categorized this news as
recent.
2. Evaluation and Selection of News
This

understandable news which makes me assume that the journalist gather the right
information.
For the tool that he/she might be used, I’m not
really sure about this one. In my opinion, the journalist only used the tape
recorder or handphone to record some statements in the news such as Imelda and
Ferdinand statement, and computer device to report the news. The journalist doesn’t
put any live picture related to the news, so I assume that the journalist didn’t
use a camera.
6. The Form and Organization of News
Stories
This news is categorized as modern news. This news has
a clear headline and clear lead, as well as the summary. The segment is also divided
into clear parts, started from the lead of the news, then the SBY’s
statement, the Instagram post, and finally the closing. This clear segment
makes the news are understandable.
7. Designing and Contracting the Lead
The lead of this news is clearly stated. It says in
the first paragraph “Former first lady Kristiani Herrawati, better known as Ani
Yudhoyono, has been hospitalized in Singapore since Feb. 2 for blood cancer
treatment.” By this sentence, we can assume what this news is talking about. In
modern news in which we know it has three points of lead (who, where, when), this
lead news has all of those.

This news is a written text. There is a video of
SBY’s press conference and the journalist quoted some of his statement. He/she
translated it into English because the original video is using Bahasa
Indonesia. It goes with the Instagram post also. The journalist quoted the
caption with English, though the original caption is in Bahasa Indonesia.

In my opinion, the journalist of this news didn’t do many interviews to dig deeper about the information. It is proven by how the
news delivered, most of the news is only taken from social media such as the
video of the press conference (from youtube) and Instagram post.

The way the journalist develop the news is good
enough. She/he doesn’t only give the information about the main issue (Ani
Yudhoyono, has been hospitalized in Singapore since Feb. 2 for blood cancer
treatment), but also developing the news by giving information about the
support from party members and her family. The journalist even gives more detail information about who Ani Yudhoyono is at the end of the news.

The color story of this news is shown by the story
besides the main story. It’s the support from party members and her family.
Ani has also received well-wishes and flowers from state leaders, including
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President Jokowi and First Lady

12. Human Interest Stories
In my opinion, this news doesn’t have that much human-interest story. I, as the audience, don’t feel really engaged with the
news. I feel the emotion by watching the video of SBY’s press conference about
his wife, not by reading the news itself. I don’t think the journalist uses an
emotive language because the language is just simply language news, I might
say. Nothing is really special about the language used.

This news doesn’t have many issues to comment about
the way the journalist investigating the news because we don’t know the process
of how the journalist interview (investigate) the news.

As I stated in the interview point, I don’t think
the journalist of this news is digging deeper about the news. But for some
reasons (from the previews points), this news is well developed.
